Adobe Launches Firefly: The Future of AI-Generated Media Content

Adobe has unveiled its new range of artificial intelligence (AI) models, called Firefly, aimed at expanding the use of AI across its suite of apps and services.

Firefly has been designed to generate media content, using multiple AI models to work across a range of different use cases. The models will produce assets by bringing together Adobe’s new 'gentech' models with decades of investment in imaging, typography, illustration, and more.

Firefly's first model can generate images and text effects from descriptions and will soon be able to create content across Adobe apps. It can also transfer different styles to existing images and apply styles or textures to lettering and fonts. The artwork created using Firefly models will contain metadata indicating that it is partially or wholly AI-generated.

The models have been trained using content from Adobe Stock, the company’s royalty-free media library, along with openly licensed and public domain content where the copyright has expired.

In the future, users will be able to train and fine-tune Firefly models using their own content, allowing for the steering of outputs towards specific styles and design languages. Adobe is also exploring a compensation model for Stock contributors to monetize their talents and benefit from any revenue generated by Firefly.
