OpenAI CEO Sam Altman launched the Worldcoin cryptocurrency project with the aim of revolutionizing human identification in the digital realm. The initiative leverages iris biometric identification to differentiate real humans from AI bots.

The core of the Worldcoin project is the "orb," a device about the size of a bowling ball that scans individuals' irises using a proprietary algorithm for verification. Once a person's iris is scanned, they receive a Worldcoin ID, granting access to various services, including financial, social media, and gaming platforms.

To facilitate transactions, Worldcoin introduces a cryptocurrency token called WLD, which can be used to purchase Worldcoin IDs and make payments for goods and services.

Since its launch, the project has attracted over 2 million users and plans to expand to 35 cities across 20 countries. Worldcoin aims to list WLD on major cryptocurrency exchanges, signaling its global ambitions.

While praised for its potential in combating AI bot infiltration, concerns regarding privacy and data security have arisen. The iris scan collects sensitive biometric data, prompting questions about data storage and usage. Worldcoin assures users that personal data will not be sold or shared, but some remain skeptical.

As Worldcoin pioneers a new approach to digital identification, its progress will be closely monitored by the tech and cryptocurrency communities. The project's impact on the future of digital identification and privacy remains uncertain, but it has generated significant interest and excitement.
