UBS Digital Art Museum Lands in Hamburg

The upcoming UBS Digital Art Museum in Hamburg is positioning itself as Europe’s most ambitious space for immersive digital art. Located in the city’s HafenCity district, the museum is set to open in early 2026 and will cover over 6,500 square meters, making it the largest venue of its kind in Europe. The project is backed by tech entrepreneur Lars Hinrichs and global financial powerhouse UBS, with the intention of blending large-scale digital art, cutting-edge technology, and sustainable architecture. The museum aims to become a cultural landmark in Hamburg’s fast-developing urban landscape.
At the heart of the museum's debut will be a permanent installation by Japanese art collective teamLab, known worldwide for their algorithm-driven, interactive environments. The Hamburg iteration of teamLab Borderless follows successful permanent exhibitions in Tokyo, Shanghai, and Jeddah, and marks the collective's first European flagship. The space will feature expansive digital installations, where light, sound, and movement respond directly to the presence of visitors, creating an evolving, co-created experience that challenges conventional boundaries between artwork and audience.
Beyond spectacle, the UBS Digital Art Museum carries an agenda rooted in sustainability and technological innovation. The project is designed to operate as a climate-neutral institution, incorporating energy-efficient building systems and offset strategies. With its combination of immersive art, responsive technology, and eco-conscious design, the museum reflects a growing global demand for cultural spaces that are not only visually striking but also socially and environmentally responsible.
